Deep Water Sailors, Shallow Water Soldiers
This story is not complete. The project was initiated following a review of Samuel Hambleton's account of the distribution of the prize money on Lake Erie. Hambleton's prize list discloses that a large percentage of the men who served on board the US squadron during the Battle of Lake Erie were not sailors, but soldiers. Where did they come from? And why were they on board? This book is a great help for those researching whether they might have had an ancestor on board.
